Need for WORD
In the early 1980s, no dedicated organizations existed to advocate for the pressing issues faced by women or their development within society. Mrs. D. Shanthi's personal experiences made her acutely aware of the necessity for an organization to uplift women in what was then a male-dominated social landscape. This realisation motivated her to establish an entity aimed at fostering the socio-economic and cultural advancement of women.
In the year1985, under the leadership of Mrs. D. Shanthi, a group of five socially conscious women from diverse religious backgrounds came together to launch this organisation, WORD committed to championing the causes and addressing the needs of the most underprivileged and marginalized families. WORD received statutory recognition in the year 1988.
Since its inception, WORD has expanded its activities across various domains, and its integrated approach has facilitated the holistic development of women, children, and society as a whole. Notably, WORD is an organisation of women, by women and for women to dedicate to uplifting women. The organization strongly believes that women play a pivotal and indispensable role in the progress of men, children, and society at large.
