Prevention of Child Workers in Garment Industries

Namakkal District in Tamilnadu is one of the prime destination areas for the 'Camp Labour practices' in the spinning mills. The labourers are the girl children, adolescents and young woman. They are attracted from various districts in Tamilnadu under various lucrative schemes which offers lumpsum amount of money at the end of fixed number of working years. They are facing various exploitation and abuse issues.
WORD was the implementing partner to SAVE/FIDH program in Namakkal District in implementing Community Awareness Building towards Prevention of child workers in Textile Industry from March 2014- January 2016. |
Under this program, WORD worked in Pallipalayam, Namakkal and Trichengode areas to build awareness among adolescent girl children and community to prevent child workers in Textile Industries.
Community Awareness Program, School Awareness Program and Adolescent Peer groups Formation and Training are the major thrust areas of work under this program. Transformation of Children Parliament from adolescent peer groups are in process.
As part of the program, WORD conducted an interaction program with Trade Union Leaders, Power loom workers and Sumgangali workers on 22nd April 2015 @ Pallipalayam and at Namakkal on 29th April 2015.
WORD conducted a grand get together & selection of the apex child parliament members of the Adolescent Peer Groups in Pallipalayam on 23rd May 2015 and at Namakkal on 28th September 2015.
