Project Buds
With the funding support from Family Health International (FHI) and the technical support from Community Health Education Society (CHES)-Chennai, WORD has implemented the comprehensive community based care and support project for the HIV/AIDS affected and infected children in Namakkal Taluk which was named as "Project Mottukkal" from January 2004-September 2006. This project has been executed under the co-operative agreement of IMPACT between USAID and FHI. As this agreement has come to an end by September 2006, this project has also been ended in Namakkal. Considering the need and to render the services for the needy children, WORD has decided to carry forward this project with its own resources with greater community participation and contribution.
A Project Co-ordinator, A community Care Co-ordinator, 2 community nurses, 6 social workers, 2 counsellors and a Part Time Doctor worked for the project.
Mottukkal project has reached 1292 children from 682 HIV/AIDS infected/ affected families through wide range of its outreach services of the project. Out of the 1284 children, 72 children are tested for HIV Positive (CIAs). Efforts were made to cover these positive children under the Clinton Foundation HIV/AIDS initiative with the partner ship with Catholic Relief Services. Unfortunately, this has also ended due to the policy decisions by the donor agencies.
WORD seeks good hearted philanthropic persons and supporting foundations around the globe, to support the needy children to live a happy and healthier life and make the family members to live in a conducive environment with greater hope and cheers in their lives.
Now, with the support of Terre des Hommes- Netherlands, WORD is able to serve for the mainstreaming efforts for the follow-up families.
